At House of Bread our mission is to help our friends build a better future for themselves and for their families. Our new partnership with Waythrough helps us to do just that. Waythrough are a wonderful charity who provide support services for mental health, drug and alcohol addiction, criminal justice and housing.
We now have a Service Level Agreement with them which means that rather than dealing with an issue at the point of crisis, we can be much more proactive, and can help secure accomodation, if appropriate, for some of our friends. This holistic approach gives us a more active role in the journey from homelessness to accomodation, and so far, has been hugely successful. We have five single occupancy flats which serve as part of the transition from living on the street to having a long-term home. And our volunteers, through their hard work in gaining the trust of our friends, are perfectly placed to be the bridge between the housing provider and our friends, which in turn helps to sustain the tenancy. We’ll keep you updated as to how this wonderful iniatiave is going in the coming months.
