Reverse Advent Calendar

The winter months are often a challenging time of year for people on a low income. The cost of living crisis, higher energy bills, the cost of additional meals when children are off school as well as the extra expense of Christmas means that for many the coming months will be especially difficult. And so, House of Bread has teamed up with Ewe Move to encourage everyone to get involved in our Reverse Advent Calendar.

The idea is very simple. During December, instead of opening a window in an advent calendar each day and finding a small gift you set aside one item per day to be donated to House of Bread. At the end of Advent these items can be brought in to us at Café 43 and we will put together parcels which will be distributed to families and individuals in need.  If you would like to donate festive food please drop this into us in plenty of time so that we can make sure it reaches someone in time for Christmas.

The sort of items to put in your Reverse Advent Calendar are:

Tinned food, cereal, pasta, rice, pasta sauce, noodles, squash, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, cakes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, shaving gel, sanitary products, soap, toothbrushes, socks, gloves, hats, toys etc… Please make sure all items are in date.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to each and every one of you who joins our Reverse Advent Calendar campaign. Together, let’s spread a little Christmas cheer!
